File or folder merge on the Mac

I've found another pre-bundled tool in the Mac arsenal, Filemerge. FileMerge is a utility for patch and diff commands from an oh-so-simple graphical interface. You can review and save changes to any type of text file, not only that you can compare folders which is great for merging photo and music. It comes free (with Xcode) and you should be able to find it in /Developer/Applications/Utilities/

Hi Andy,

Still a little new to this Mac lark. Sounds like a great tool. I have a Macbook running OS X 10.4.8. Searched HD for FileMerge with no luck, can't find a developer/applications/utilities directory, and while I have an applications/utilities directory, I can't find FileMerge.

Any ideas?
Hi Peter. Did you look from the root of your HD for "developers/Application/utilities", not the usual "users/-yourusername-/application/utilities". If in doubt use Spotlight (apple-key&spacebar) to find it.

To be honest I don't actually go into folders to find apps I either use Spotlight or Quicksilver(a launcher app which I highly recomend)

Peter, if you cannot find it via Spotlight then it might also be because you haven't got Xcode installed (http://www.apple.com/macosx/features/xcode/). I'm sure I installed this from the disks but without going through them I cannot remember which one from the top of my head, sorry.
