The merger and Homesite

Here's a wild thought!

When Macromedia took over Allaire then did some mild updates to Homesite then pretty much killed the development - fair play, they did have Dreamweaver afterall.

So if all goes well "could" enough support get HS+ 5.5 development started again (surely with Adobes abundance cash then could through some at HS) or would it now mean total death for the ageing editor?

Update: Just noticed Nick Bradbury has had the Same thought, with some good comments posted.

why you need to read threads everyday

a.k.a Another Adobe and Macromdia post

So its coming to the end of the day in the UK soon (6:15pmish here now) and i realised that for the first time in ages i hadnt fired up FeedDemon all day WOW - last time that happens. So incase you havent heard there's gonna be a huge merger between Macromedia and Adobe - for more info check out the mini site at www.adobe.com/aboutadobe/invrelations/adobeandmacromedia.html. If you are looking for a more personal touch in finding out what this means you NEED to check out Mike Chamber recent blog entry.

Well i could go on about relative links out there but MXNA and Goog have done that well with all the post stating their concerns.

One big concern i have that doesnt seem to of been addressed that well anywere is the community focus. With the likes of of all the MM staff blogs which are an invaluable resource, there participation on mailing lists right down to MXNA? What will come of this?

Fusefoc snippets for CFE (and HS aswell)

I just resurected some snippets of mine from November 2003. The snippets are the complete set of Fusedoc tags originally for Homesite 5.5+.

I've now recreated the whole set for CFE

CFE set
Homesite 5.5+ Set

To instal either version just create a new folder called "FuseDoc" in your Snippets folder and unzip to there.

If you don't know where you snippets foler is for CFE then goto: Window » Preference » CFEclipse » Path to Snippets directory

RegEx find/replace and CFE

I've never heavily used RegEx find/replaces (which up to this point makes me wonder how?) so I didn't properly take in Adam Howitt's post about Simplifying Form Validation with Eclipse Backreferences first time round. If i did i could of saved myself some time last week...thats another story.

Not only does it show the power of CFE (as well as other editors) but is shows the power of RegEx find and replace.

Download Homesite for free

The alternative title for this was going to be "Own a bit of history", but i thought the first was a bit more attention grabbing. Either way i'm not lying. Thats right, you can download Homesite for free, but not the MM version. Actually its not the Allaire version but the original by Nick Bradbuy, version 1.2. So if you are looking for a HTML editor for Windows 95 (i tried it on my XP machine but with not luck), you can go here to download it.

P.S. if anyone does actually get this running on a Windows 95 machine i'd love to see a screen dump.

HS tech note on Dbl clicking the files tab

WooHoo, MM have just released a TechNote titled, Double-clicking in the Files tab moves focus to root node. It deals with one problem that anyone who uses HS have come across.

Along with this there has also been a couple of other TechNotes released:
Exporting FTP and RDS settings
HomeSite/ColdFusion Studio 5 causes a 'Class not registered' error
HomeSite 5.x: Error when using Visual Source Safe with HomeSite/HomeSite+ on Windows Server 2003

HomeSite Is No Longer Officially Supported By Macromedia

Ok before i get flamed/abused and slapped with a fish, this is from a post on the Macromedia Forums. But aparently "DISQMAN" man has been trying for a few days to get through to macromedia.com, then when he did he was told that they no longer supported Homesite. You can read the post at the MM forums.
It's probably a troll post, at the end of the day the HS site isnt saing anything yet. But its an American numbers and im at work so i cant even entertain the idea that is being put forward and try calling.

What with the state of the HS forum and the rumours its probably not worth believing!

Create FuseDocs with Snippets

Ive never been an overly huge fan of fusedocs for Fusebox, mainly for all the coding that goes into them (Hmmmm might be laziness coming through there). So with that in mind i decided to help myself out and create a set of Snippets incorporating the "variables" feature from Homesite+ 5.5, making development of them quicker and even easier.

You can download them at http://www.andyjarrett.co.uk/downloads/FuseDoc-HS.zip, to instal just create a new folder called "FuseDoc" in your Snippets folder and unzip to there.

Have a look and let me know what you think. I haven't put them through a good test yet, but they are doing well so far so any feed back appreciated.
